USCB Cross Country and Track Coach, Larry Kimball ventured to his home state of Vermont to sign the newest members of the class of 2012. Chris Elliott from Essex Jct. and John Critchlow from Colchester have both agreed to run for the Sand Sharks beginning with the upcoming cross country season this fall.
“Chris attends the same high school that I went to forty years ago. His coach, Leighton Walker, is a good friend of mine and I know he has been well coached,” said Kimball.
Elliott has been all state performer in both track and cross country with bests of 2:01 for the 800 and 16:45 for the five kilometer cross country distance. He most recently won a state championship at 600 meters during the indoor season.
Critchlow will bring a lot of range to USCB. Also a multi time all state runner, Critchlow could be a runner who will move toward longer distances such as the marathon during his career as a Sand Shark. He has bests of 4:36 for the mile, 10:10 for two miles and 16:45 for five kilometers.
“John is not only an outstanding runner, but is also one of the top nordic high school skiers in Vermont,” said Kimball.
With the addition of Elliott and Critchow, USCB has now added six men to their roster. Frank Tinsley, Tommy Reeves and Nic Tones from Bluffton and Stephen Wilson from Wando have already committed to the Sand Sharks. More commitments are expected to be announced in the near future.
The USCB cross country team will open the 2008 season at the Gamecock Invitational in Columbia on August 29th.
