LEWALLYN NAMED PITCHING COACH AT USCB

BLUFFTON, SC- Bryan Lewallyn has been announced by Sand Shark Head Baseball Coach Rick Sofield as the new pitching coach/recruiting coordinator at USCB. “We are so excited to have Bryan join us at USCB,” said Sofield adding, ”He brings a wealth of baseball knowledge, energy, and experience to our program. Bryan comes from the Florida junior college ranks which will open new recruiting doors for us not only in Florida but throughout the southeast.”

BLUFFTON, SC-USCB Head Baseball Coach Rick Sofield recently announced the winners of a team vote for three awards given out to members of the team after the Sand Sharks finished their second season with a 39-15 record and earning a trip to their first ever NAIA Regional Tournament.

CLEVELAND, TN-USCB lost 8-4 to William Jewell Thursday in NAIA Regional play ending a tremendous season for the Sand Sharks who completed only their second season of competition with a 39-15 record. USCB was the second seed in the Cleveland, TN regional finishing the tournament with a 1-2 record.

CLEVELAND, TN-The USCB Sand Shark baseball team gave the NAIA’s fourth ranked team all they could handle before losing a heartbreaking ten inning 3-2 decision to Lee University in a winner’s bracket game Wednesday afternoon in double elimination regional play. Lee’s Tanner Moore drove home Trey Burstrom with the winning run in the bottom of the tenth frame to give Lee the victory.

CLEVELAND, TN-If a person not familiar with USCB baseball had witnessed the Taylor University grand slam home run in the top of the tenth that put the Taylor Trojans ahead 7-3, they surely would have been scurrying for the exits. But as is a very familiar happening for those in the know, the “never say die” Sand Sharks resurfaced with two outs in their half of the tenth frame to score five runs and came away with a dramatic 8-7 victory in their first game of a NAIA Regional being held at Lee University. The win puts the Sand Sharks in the winner’s bracket of the five team double elimination regional tournament. They will now play the winner of Tuesday’s final game between William Jewell and Lee on Wednesday at 3:30.

BLUFFTON, SC-The USCB baseball team will make their first ever appearance in NAIA Regional play when they play Tuesday at 3:30 against Taylor University from Upland, IN. The Sand Sharks are one of five teams to play in Cleveland, TN in the regional hosted by Lee University in a double elimination tournament. There are nine regional tournaments throughout the United States with the winner of each one to join host Lewis & Clark State in the NAIA National World Series in Lewiston, ID from May 28 to June 4.

FORT MEYERS, FL-The USCB baseball team was eliminated from the Sun Conference Tournament on Tuesday as the Sand Sharks lost to Florida Memorial 6-5 at the Boston Red Sox spring training site in Fort Meyers, FL. The 19th ranked Sand Sharks who lost two straight games in the tournament will now have to wait until Thursday to find out if they will receive an at large bid to the 46 team NAIA National Tournament. USCB’s record now stands at 38-13.

FORT MEYERS, FL-The second seeded USCB baseball team went down to defeat 17-4 to St. Thomas in their first game of the Sun Conference Tournament on Sunday at City of Palms Park in Fort Meyers. The loss puts the Sand Sharks in the loser’s bracket in the double elimination tournament to determine the Sun Conference Champion. USCB will now play Florida Memorial on Monday morning at 11:00 a.m. Florida Memorial lost a 14 inning game to regular season champion Embry Riddle on Sunday.
