JACKSONVILLE, FL-For the second year in a row, USCB sophomore, Marshall Meyer has qualified for the NAIA National Marathon. Running in crisp early morning temperatures in Jacksonville, FL today, Meyer finished fifth overall in a field of over 1000 runners at the Jacksonville Bank Half Marathon. Meyer ran more than a minute faster than his qualifying time from a year ago as he completed the 13.1 mile half marathon course in 1:14:52. His time will enable Meyer to return to run in the national marathon event in a race where he finished 18th a year in St. Louis. The national NAIA marathon will be part of the NAIA National Track and Field Championships to be held at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana from May 25th to the 27th .

Junior Katie Mock also attempted to repeat her qualifying time from a year ago, coming up less than two minutes short of qualifying, running a time of 1:37:56. She could make another stab at qualifying in another half marathon in early February.

It was good that Marshall got the qualifying time out of the way early,” said Coach Larry Kimball, adding “now he can start a gradual buildup leading up to our track season.”

The Sand Sharks will open their 2010 track season on Saturday, February 27th at the Savannah State Invitational.
