BOTH MEN'S AND WOMEN'S GOLF TEAM IN FIRST PLACE

LAKE WALES, FL-The USCB men’s and women’s golf teams ended the first day of competition in first place at the Webber International Start 2 Finish Sports and More Classic being held Sunday and Monday at the Lake Wales (FL) Country Club. The NAIA nationally ranked third place Sand Shark men have built a nine shot lead after the opening 36 holes on Sunday with team rounds of 294 and 297 for a total of 591. Southeastern sits in second place at 600 with SCAD a stroke behind in third.
Jon Pannone was the leading scorer for the Sand Sharks at 145 after firing rounds of 74 and 71 over the windswept Lake Wales layout. Junior George Thacker was just two strokes back at 147 (74, 73). Freshman Travis Cashion, making his first start for USCB, posted rounds of 73 and 77 for a 150 total. Jack Bingham with scores of 74 and 78 and Chris Lane at 76 and 80 rounded out the Sand Shark contingent on day one.
The Lady Sand Sharks Adrianna Saavedra individually leads the women’s tournament by two shots after firing a 76. The 13th ranked USCB women’s team holds a three shot lead over Embry Riddle shooting a team score of 324. Sophie Henke fired an 81 for the Sand Sharks while teammate Kelli Nakano was a stroke back at 82. Jenny Payne’s 85 and Brittany Cheek’s 91 completed the first day scoring for USCB.
The tournament will conclude today with the final 18 holes scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m.
