HARDEEVILLE, SC-The USCB baseball team ran their season record to 17-7 with a doubleheader sweep of Oswego State (NY) on Sunday by scores of 8-6 and 5-0 at the Richard Gray Baseball Complex.
Junior left handed pitcher Adam Miller won the second game with a two hit gem as he faced only 23 Oswego hitters while striking out seven. The win gives Miller a 5-0 record for the season.
The Sand Sharks only picked up four hits of their own off Oswego starter Andy Salvatore, but took advantage of four Laker errors. Three of the Oswego miscues led to the first two runs in the first frame that were sandwiched between singles by Larry Perry and Brandon Collins.
The Sand Sharks tallied their final three runs in the fifth frame as Blake Sanders walked to lead off the inning. He was sacrificed to by second by
Mitch Foster. A Perry single grove home Sanders.
RJ Neal's single scored Perry. Neal eventually scored the fifth the final USCB run on a stolen base and a two base throwing error.
After taking a 2-0 lead in the second frame of the opening game, highlighted by a double by
Zach Rossetti and a single by
Clay Bonds, the Sand Sharks gave up five runs in the top of the third inning. USCB starter Spencer Cromer faced ten Laker hitters as the visitors accounted for their five runs on five hits, two hitters being hit and a base on balls.
The Sand Sharks tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning as
David O'Neil was hit by a pitch leading off. Neal singled and
Spencer Jackson walked to load the bases. Rossetti delivered his second double of the game as the Sand Sharks tied the game.
After Oswego scored the go ahead run in the top of the sixth, USCB sent eight hitters to the plate in their half of the same frame to score three runs to give them the final 8-6 margin. Singles by DeShontay Berry, O'Neil and Neal loaded the bases before all scored on a sacrifice, a walk and a hit batter.
Colton Rudd picked up the win in game one for the Sand Sharks pitching the final 1 1/3 innings. Jon Stevens took the loss for Oswego.
The Sand Sharks will next be in action on Tuesday at the Richard Gray Baseball Complex on Tuesday as they will play Benedict College in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00. Admission will be free.
