BLUFFTON, SC-The USCB baseball team scored seven runs in the bottom of the eighth inning overcoming a 6-3 deficit defeating Southeastern University 10-6 at the Richard Gray Baseball Complex in Hardeeville. The win gives the Sand Sharks a 22-8 record overall and 7-5 in Sun Conference play.
The visiting Southeastern Fire got to USCB starter Adam Miller in the first inning scoring three runs on five base hits as Armando Alvarez, Tyler Ruehlam, and Tyler Langford delivered rbi's.
The Sand Sharks countered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first frame as
David O'Neil was hit by a pitch.
RJ Neal doubled to right field before Brandon Collins drove home O'Neil on a fielder's choice. Collins later scored on a single by
TJ Kemp.
The Fire played “small ball” in the fifth and sixth innings as they scored three more runs on three sacrifice bunts to take a 6-2 lead.
The Sand Sharks scored their third run in the seventh frame as O'Neil and Neal each singled. O'Neil scored when Collins grounded into a double play.
After Miller steadied the ship through the top of the eighth, the “never say die” Sand Sharks sent eleven hitters to the plate in the bottom of the same frame. Taking advantage of four Southeastern errors, two bases on balls, two wild pitches, and three timely hits by Collins, Blake Sanders and pinch hitter
Brett Wheeler, USCB scored seven runs to put the Sand Sharks up 10-6. Collin's hit was the game winner.
Miller pitched eight innings to secure his seventh victory of the season against no losses.
Kyle McCullough pitched the ninth frame for the Sand Sharks. Alex Barron worked seven solid innings for Southeastern before giving way to Gabe Grinder who was charged with the loss.
The three game series will conclude on Saturday at the Richard Gray Baseball Complex with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00. This is a time change from the original start time of noon.
