SAND SHARKS DROP TOUGH ONE TO LEE

BRANDON COLLINS HAS TWO HITS INCLUDING HIS 7TH HOME RUN OF THE SEASON IN LOSS TO LEE
CLEVELAND, TN-The USCB Sand Shark baseball team gave the NAIA's fourth ranked team all they could handle before losing a heartbreaking ten inning 3-2 decision to Lee University in a winner's bracket game Wednesday afternoon in double elimination regional play. Lee's Tanner Moore drove home Trey Burstrom with the winning run in the bottom of the tenth frame to give Lee the victory.

Sand Shark starting pitcher and ace Adam Miller hooked up with the Flames number one hurler, Scott Swinson, in a pitcher's duel as neither team was able to mount a sustainable offense. The Sand Sharks ended the game with five hits while the home standing Flames could only muster seven base hits off of Miller.

Both teams scored a run in the second frame. Brandon Collins belted his seventh home run of the season for USCB giving the Sand Sharks a quick one run lead. Lee answered right back as Seth Walker doubled and scored on a single by Lee's leadoff hitter JJ Costantino.

The Sand Sharks scored their second and final run in the top of the fifth as TJ Kemp singled and eventually scored on an error by the Flames third baseman Tanner Moore. Lee knotted the game at 2-2 in the sixth when Michael Brown blasted a deep home run well over the left field fence.

Miller and Swinson continued to match pitches through the ninth inning with each pitcher having thrown over 115 pitches apiece. Aaron Everett, the Lee closer came on in relief of Swinson in the top half of the tenth and struck out the Sand Sharks in order leading to Moore's game winning single.

The Sand Sharks with a record of 39-14 will play at 2:00 on Thursday against William Jewell, the winner of the Wednesday's final game. The winner of that game will then have to defeat Lee twice to advance to the NAIA World series in Lewiston, ID.
