WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The USCB soccer team can add another "first" to its historic 2016 season. 

Junior forward Hayley Pina was named first-team All-Sun Conference Thursday at the Sun Conference Championship banquet, becoming the first player in Sand Shark soccer history to earn first-team honors. Freshman center back Elin Sturesson received honorable mention, and five Sand Sharks – seniors Brittany Lorentz, Bridgette Noonan and Taylor Superior, and sophomores Brittney Neser and Claudia Doll – were named to the All-Academic Team. 

Pina, who received honorable mention last season, had another standout season for the Sand Sharks, breaking her own single-season school records for goals (11) and points (26). The Culver City, Calif., native also became USCB's career leader for goals (23), assists (13) and points (59). 

Sturesson established herself as on the Sand Sharks' most vital players, particularly during conference play. The freshman from Angelholm, Sweden, was a key cog in the backline as USCB allowed a program-best 34 goals and limited opponents to just 9.5 shots per game. 

Keiser placed five players on the All-Sun Conference first team, along with three players each from Southeastern and Thomas and one each from USCB and St. Thomas. 

The Seahawks took home two of the top honors, as sophomore midfielder Ebba Blomqvist was named the Player of the Year and Matthew Dunn earned Coach of the Year accolades. Blomqvist, who last year was named the Newcomer of the Year, was rock solid in the midfield all season for the Seahawks and contributed five goals and two assists, including three game-winning goals. 

Southeastern freshman Uchenna Kanu was named Newcomer of the Year after joining the team in mid-October and racking up 13 goals and four assists in just nine contests. The forward from Abia, Nigeria, has scored at least one goal in every game of her collegiate career.

The Champions of Character Award went to Thomas' Dara Propst, a former walk-on who has fought through numerous injuries to become a two-year team captain and emotional leader.
